You’re Going to Visit Hollywood, Now What? Insider tips on the top things to see and do in Hollywood

Hollywood… the iconic word that brings to mind images of celebrities, glamour and drama.

Though Hollywood may not be exactly what everyone imagines, it’s spectacular and well worth a visit.

Hollywood encompasses a fairly big area, and there’s much to see and do. In order to help you save time and provide a little insight, here’s a list of a few of our suggested see and skip’s when it comes to the capitol of celebrities.

The Hollywood SignThis is the quintessential Hollywood attraction, and it’s neat to see up close. Little known fact – the sign was originally made to advertise a real estate development called “Hollywoodland.” The “land” has been long removed, but the rest remains! These days you can’t go directly to the sign as it’s fenced off, but you can get pretty close to have a good view and take a nice picture, for more detailed directions on either hiking or driving, visit here.

Hollywood Boulevard – This is the main Hollywood drag. The place where all the magic happens, well sort of anyway. You’ll find the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, stars hand prints, the Dolby Theater, and plenty more Hollywood kitsch. There’s plenty to see here, so allow a few hours or more to take it all in.

Hollywood Bowl An absolutely beautiful amphitheater, the Hollywood Bowl has been hosting concerts since 1922 when the LA Philharmonic first played. If there’s someone playing there while you’re in town, definitely worth booking a ticket or two!

hollywood california attractions - studio tourStudio Tour This is an awesome way to get a glimpse into life behind the scenes of your favorite films and TV shows. Any good studio tour is going to take you through a real, working studio, but that means it will only be open during the weekdays, so definitely keep that in mind as you plan. A few studio tours we recommend are: adventures by Disney, Paramount studio tour, and Warner studio tour.

Of course this is all a matter of personal opinion, so naturally you can decide if you agree with us or not!

Stars Home Tour These days most of the celebrities don’t live in Hollywood. Many prefer to get away from it all and live all over California, the U.S. and the globe. Especially if you’re limited on time, we recommend a studio tour over this any day!

Hollywood Forever CemeteryA cemetery that houses the remains of Hollywood greats. Not that it isn’t a worthy place to visit, it’s just if you’re short on time, this may not be the most interesting attraction to visit.

General Tips

Hollywood is big and there’s lots to see. We didn’t add the bigger attractions such as Universal Studios Hollywood and Disneyland (which isn’t in Hollywood anyway) to the list because those attractions takes full days or more. If you really want to fit a lot in plan in advance. Purchase tickets in advance, book your hotel in advance, rent a car in advance. Renting a car is wise because L.A. in particular is very spread out with less than ideal public transit. Map out your plan of action ahead of time to get a general idea of what all you’ll have time to do and see!

Our most helpful tip of all – choose a centrally located hotel. Especially if you intend to do one day in Hollywood proper, one day at Universal, another day at Disney, etc. All of those attractions are somewhat spread out so you’ll want a hotel that is more or less equidistant. Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Commerce Casino is one such hotel. Centrally located and stocked with extremely friendly and helpful team members who can help advise you on any part of your vacation.
